Corrupting Consumption is a browser extension that critically examines and visually disrupts dark patterns on online shopping websites.

Data processing

The extension does not transmit personal information or browsing data to the developer or to third parties.

To provide its functionality, the extension processes the following information locally within the user’s browser:

How the information is used

This information is used exclusively to provide the extension’s user-facing functionality, including displaying the extension interface, modifying visible website elements and maintaining the state of the experience.

Local storage

The extension uses the Chrome Storage API to store settings and temporary interface information locally in the user’s browser.

This information is not transmitted to the developer or to external servers. Users can remove the locally stored information by uninstalling the extension or clearing the extension’s stored data.

Corrupting Consumption does not:

Remote code

The extension does not download or execute remotely hosted code. All executable code is included within the extension package.

Permissions

activeTab Used when the user activates the extension to interact with the current browser tab.
Host permissions Used to display the extension interface and apply visual interventions to supported shopping websites.
Storage Used to save local interface states, tool selections, navigation positions and temporary extension information.

Limited Use

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Changes to this privacy policy

This privacy policy may be updated if the extension’s functionality or data-processing practices change. The latest version will remain available at this URL.
